Until the Nail Tears
One of my daughters has artificial nails, which I found difficult to accept.
It was challenging for me to understand why someone would complicate their life in this manner. Why would someone willingly endure such suffering?
How is it possible to live like this? Is she attempting to conceal reality? What might be the underlying reasons?
Kitsch?
Subculture?
Is it a means of creating distance between parent and child?
To explore and comprehend this topic, I began taking photos of hands. This is how I met Diána.
We taught each other to understand and accept people without prejudice.
Diána Adancsek at the age of 18.
At 22, on her way home from school, she had a head-on collision with another car. The driver lost their life. Diána’s pelvis and jaw were shattered, both replaced with platinum. She underwent extended hospital treatment, spending two months in intensive care. Subsequently, she had to relearn how to walk.
Since her recovery, Diána has been living with very long acrylic nails. Nail care takes up four hours every three weeks.
For eighteen years, she has attended jaw physiotherapy every week, a painful experience each time. Without it, stiffness around the jaw muscles would cause lockjaw.
She has been living with Gergő for a year.
Diána works in a telephone accessory store in a Budapest shopping center.
There are life situations she can only handle with tricks.
She undergoes rigorous physiotherapy control during her workouts.
„If you want to be strong, learn how to fight alone.” Despite her fear of needles, her entire body is covered in tattoos.
Despite trauma and difficulties, Diána loves life.
